About Vultures:
♦ They are found in both the subtropics and the tropics.
♦ Nature's garbage collectors: Vultures are scavengers who help to keep the ecosystem clean and healthy.
♦ They also help to keep water sources clean, especially in the wild. 

About the status of vultures in India:
♦ India is home to nine different vulture species, including the Oriental white-backed, Long-billed, Slender-billed, Himalayan, Red-headed, Egyptian, Bearded, Cinereous, and Eurasian Griffon.
♦ The majority of these nine species face extinction.
♦ The Wildlife Protection Act of 1972:
♦ Schedule-1: Bearded, Long-billed, Slender-billed, Oriental white-backed
♦ Rest is protected under 'Schedule IV.'
