05 October 2020 Current Affairs:The former judge and Acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court (HC) Justice Anantkumar Surendraray Dave passed away on 5 October 2020. Before his retirement, Justice Anant Dave served as an Acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat HC before the incumbent Chief Justice Vikram Nath.
Justice A S Dave:
Justice A S Dave began his career as a lawyer in 1984. He has served as a standing counsel for the Government of India and as an Additional Government Pleader for the State Government. He also served as a Solicitor at the Gujarat HC, as a Legal Advisor for the Consumer Education and Research Centre, GE Board, the Sardar Sarovar Nigam Ltd, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), GSIC and the Panel of Gujarat High Court Legal Aid Services.
In 2004, Justice Dave was appointed as an HC Judge. In 2006, his post was made permanent. During his service, he dealt with the Sabarmati Express/ Godhra train burning case. Also, a Bench headed by Justice Dave commuted the death penalty for 11 of the convicts to a penalty of life imprisonment.
